IWCTTA CENTRE (the Carl Prean Centre)
The Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Associations’ own table tennis centre is located within the grounds of the Smallbrook Stadium, near Ryde. Eleven table are in use, and lighting and flooring are to Olympic standards. Open to the public on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, the Centre opens at 7pm; and for an entry fee of £1.50 visitors can play for 2 hours or more. Bats can be borrowed free of charge. The Ryde Table Tennis Club rents the Centre on Thursday evenings, and league matches permitting, visitors are welcome to use the facilities on that evening as well.
Coaching is given by Carl Prean, who runs the sessions on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. Beginners are as welcome as advanced players. Players can graduate, if they wish, to league play and tournaments both here and on the mainland.
Two youngsters, Scott Lawson (16) and George Downing (13) have made such progress that they are now among the very top players on the Island in the First Division of the Island league, and win most of their matches on the mainland.
There are also many players who play regularly to a more modest standard as a hobby. Table Tennis is a sport all can play at their own pace, yet uses most muscles, and is ideal for general fitness.
For general enquiries, please contact The IWCTTA General Secretary Erica Prean on 01983 562747.
PRACTISE @ WOOTTON
Dave Rendle has opened the doors at the Wootton Community Centre for a twice weekly session, where you can just turn up and play. New players are particularly welcome - bats and balls are available for you to use.
Saturdays 10am - 1:30pm; Mondays 9pm - 11pm.
RYDE TABLE TENNIS CLUB 2009-2010 season
The Ryde club opens it’s doors again for practice on Thursday 23rd July 2009, with plenty of time to try out that new bat or rubbers before the start of the next season. The club welcomes players of all ages, fitness levels and ability. A small charge of £1.50 is made to all players for the evening session, which starts at 7pm. The club’s robot machine will also be available - so if you have never had a go - come along and try it!
Contact Pauline Rorke on 563018 for further details.
