Results from Week 10 (week ending 18th December 2009)
Division 1
CPC Appley remain two points clear at the top of Division 1 following their 7-3 win against Ryde Eagles. Scott Lawson and Lee Orton both scored three wins, all of the Ryde players beating Rob Love. Reserve Jim Hall came very close to Lee Orton, just losing out 11-7 in the 5th game.
The battle between second and third placed teams CPC Gladiators and Shanklin Piranhas produced a thriller, Shanklin just edging the match 6-4. For CPC, George Downing won three and reserve Lee Orton one game, Shanklin’s PC and Don Hobbs won two each to close the gap on CPC to just two points. George just held his nerve to beat PC 11-8 in the 5th game.
Fourth placed Vics A beat Havenstreet A playing with a reserve 9-1, Dave Hilliam and Pedro Lopez scoring maximums. Havenstreet’s lone win saw Kevin Gatrell beat Mike Bulpitt 11-9 in the 5th set, although 5 of the 10 games played went to a final set. Rob Warren must consider himself very unlucky not to win at least one game, as he went down 11-7 in the 5th to Mike Bulpitt, 11-9 in the 5th to Pedro Lopez, and 13-11 in the 5th to Dave Hilliam!!!! Could quite easily have been a brilliant maximum!
Rookley dogs scored their first win of the season with this 6-4 win against Ryde Tigers. Tom Johnson was the Dogs hero with a good maximum, and Steve White chipped in with two wins. For Ryde, Paul Freeborn won two. Jim Hall won one game, but came close to his maximum, only losing 13-11 in the 5th game to Steve White, and 11-7 in the 5th to Tom Johnson.
Division 2
Vics B remain on top of this division by 6 points despite losing 6-4 to second placed Havenstreet B. Dave Rendle was the architect of Havenstreet’s fine victory by recording another maximum, and Alan Peaker also scored two good wins. Dave Newnham won two games for Vics, but the previously unbeaten Barry Joyce lost two games, to Dave Rendle and Alan Peaker.
Third and fourth placed teams Ryde Cheetahs and CPC Stooges fought out a 5-5 draw, only Ryde’s Mike Jose remaining unbeaten. Peter Dove won the important match for his side as Ryde came back from 5-2 down to win the last three for a point. John Moyse and Steve Downing both won two games for CPC.
CPC Panthers and Saints 1 also drew 5-5 this week, with CPC’s John Winkles scoring a maximum. Saints players Mickey Gee and John Worley scored two each, John only just losing to John Winkles 11-6 in the 5th game.
The battle at the bottom of the table saw Vics C beat Ryde Lions 7-3, Darren Cooke scoring a maximum for Vics, James Halliday also recording two wins. For Ryde Ian Loosemore won two, and only just went down to Darren 13-11 in the 5th game.
Division 3 (30 Up)
Ryde Ravens kept their second place in Division 3 with a resounding 29-1 win against Vics F. Pauline Rorke, Monty Singh and John Rawlings were too good for Vics, only Jan Hookey for Vics winning a single game against Pauline.
Saints 1 beat Vics Terminators 21-9 to remain in third place. For Vics Trevor Percival excelled to win his three games; Saints Tom Flood, Derek Pittard and Ted Martin winning two games each.
Venturians and CPC Quintet drew 15-15, CPC’s Maggie Preston winning all of her games. For Venturians, Roy Wiltshire and Brian Evans both won two.
