Division 1

The CPC teams Appley and Sovereign consolidated their positions at the top with comfortable victories. Ryde Tigers and Eagles provided a more eventful match, drawing 5 all. Jim Hall again won three for the Tigers, and so spared his side greater embarrassment. Martin Garnett made a promising Division 1 debut.

Division 2

Rookley’s domination continues. This time they swept Ryde Lions to a 9-1 defeat. Martin Garnett recorded Ryde’s only win. He had probably found Division 1 easier that week. The team in form are Newport Vics C who are battling clear of the relegation zone when their position had appeared quite hopeless a few weeks ago. They pulverised Ventmen 9-1. The latter missed the impressive Alan Brewster.

CPC Panthers hold second place by beating CPC Stooges 6-4. For the latter, Steve Downing had a bad match after playing so well in recent weeks. Saints A are getting back into form, with John Worley again outstanding. Their 7-3 win against Havenstreet B leaves them level on points with Panthers. Ryde Rooks, in bottom place, will be pleased with the 5-5 draw against Ryde Cheetahs. This opens up the relegation issues, the bottom four teams separated only by 4 points which can be gained in one match.

30 Up

This continues to be a terrific contest, the top four teams all having every chance of the title. Saints 2 remain in the lead despite a 16-14 defeat at the hands of CPC Hawks. Derek Pittards’ consistency continued for the Saints, but his three wins could not save them in the end.

Vics Terminators kept their chances very much alive as Ryde Ravens had their wings clipped at 17-13. There was good work by John Rawlings for the losers, trumped in the end by Trevor Percival’s inevitable hat-trick. Probably out of title hopes, the two bottom teams provided a 20-10 for CPC Dynamos against Ventvets, with Kevin Allen contributing three individual wins.
