Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Association (IWCTTA)

Division 1

Newport Vics B gained a rare point as they went down to Havenstreet A who gained three points from their 6-4 victory. Veteran Alan Hulbert, with three wins was their leading light. Ryde Tigers expectedly saw off Rookley Stallions by 7-3, Paul Freeborn and Jim Hall producing the hat-tricks. The joint leaders, CPC teams of Appley and Sovereign both recorded 8-2 wins against Vics A and Ryde Eagles respectively, and the title will be decided when these two teams meet.

Division 2

There was a sensation in Division 2 as leaders Rookley Has Been’s suffered their first defeat of the season against Saints A, who edged them by 6-4. Jill Fothergill, in a rare appearance, won her three singles and so administered a shock to the top team. However, Rookley’s lead is such that only a miracle can deprive them of the title. Saints will be hard to catch in the battle for the runners up medal. Their main rivals CPC Panthers unexpectedly went down to Havenstreet B by 7-3 and so emerged pointless from that match. Havenstreet again fielded Rob Warren who proved unbeatable. At the bottom end of the table Vics C lost 6-4 to Ryde Cheetahs for whom Mike Jose won three. They remain locked in a desperate battle for bottom place with Ryde Rooks who also lost 6-4, as CPC Stooges pulled ahead in the closing stages. Brian Voller again won three for Ryde. Alan Brewster produced one of the best performances of the round as he won three singles and shared the winning doubles in Ventmen’s 5-5 draw with Ryde Lions. The match against Martyn Garnett was 14-12 in the fifth set!

30-Up

The 30-up competition again produced a couple of scintillating matches. The top table clash between Saints B and CPC Hawks was shaded 16-14 by the former, who thus retain their lead. The losers produced the man of the match in Kevin Allen whose scoreline was 9-0 and even Derek Pittard was unable to stop him. 16-14 was also the margin as Ryde Ravens defeated Vics Terminators, the match decided in the final doubles. Trevor Percival won all three for Vics. The match between CPC Dynamos and Ventvets was less dramatic. Dynamos won 21-9 and Ventvets seem firmly anchored in bottom place. Maggie Preston won three with an 8-1 scoreline so continuing her fine recent form.
