Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Association (IWCTTA)

Division 1

CPC Appley assured themselves of the IW Table Tennis League Division 1 title, with big wins against the two Ryde teams. The Eagles were despatched 10-0 while Tigers were beaten 9-1 at home, Jim Hall providing the only relief. As Appley charged to victory, there were double hat-tricks from the youngsters Scott Lawson and George Downing.

CPC Sovereigns are secure in second place after their 10-0 rout of Newport Vics B, and Vics A are similarly safe in third place after sending Rookley Stallions packing by 8-2 with hat-tricks by Pedro Lopez and Keith Taylor. Havenstreet A enjoyed an excellent 6-4 win against Ryde Tigers in which Alan Hulbert, Kevin Gatrell and Dave Rendell shared in equal measure, while Jim Hall won three for Ryde.

Division 2

In Division 2 CPC Panthers won their postponed match against Ventmen 7-3. It was to prove their most important outing of the season since they needed maximum points to make sure of the runners-up medals. For Ventmen, Alan Brewster nearly upset all plans by winning his three singles, but Karen King, John Cornforth and Andrew Davies were not to be denied and a good team effort produced the silverware.

30-Up

The race in the 30-up competition will go to the wire, but Saints 2 restored their position as league leaders when they beat CPC Dynamos 22-8. Derek Pittard was again in masterly form with three wins but it was a real team effort with Tom Flood and Ted Martin also winning two each. Only Maggie Preston could equal this feat for CPC Dynamos.

Second place favourites CPC Hawks had a good win against Vics Terminators, whom they beat 21-9, but their 15-15 draw against Ryde Ravens dealt a body blow to their title hopes. Kevin Allen won three for Hawks while Pauline Rorke and Alan Hopkins won two each for Ravens. Saints 2 are now six points ahead and the teams will meet shortly. Ravens also recorded a big 25-5 win against Ventvets but their good form seems to have arrived too late to give them any chance of the title.
