Results from Week 3 (week ending 23rd October 2009)
Division 1
CPC Gladiators remain in top spot of this division thanks to a thrilling 6-4 win against Shanklin Piranhas. Piyachai Chayniyom (PC) excelled to beat George Downing in 5 games, blocking brilliantly with his short pimples against the all out attack. For Gladiators, Andy Ely impressed again with his dynamic attack, and finished with a very good hat-trick.
Ryde Eagles took on last years winners CPC Appley, and were well beaten 8-2. For Eagles, Ron Kemp had two close wins, beating Rob Love 12-10 in the 5th, and then Lee Orton 13-11 in the 5th. Otherwise, Scott Lawson and his team were untroubled.
Newport Vics A trounced Havenstreet A 10-0, Dave Hilliam, Mike Bulpitt and Pedro Lopez gaining three each. For Havenstreet, Kev Gatrell had a close tussle with Mike, finally conceding 11-8 in the 5th game.
Ryde Tigers beat the Dogs of Rookley 7-3, Jim Hall for Tigers remaining unbeaten. Dean Hume reserving for Tigers won two, as did Carl Rye for the Dogs.
Division 2
Vics B beat Havenstreet B 6-4 in a match where 5 of the 10 games went to the final set. Barry Joyce scored an impressive maximum, getting past the previously unbeaten Dave Rendle 12-10 in the 5th game. Dave Newnham also won two games for Vics as they set the pace at the top of Division 2.
Ryde Cheetahs kept up their challenge for the title with a close 6-4 win against CPC Stooges. Mike Platt was the pick of the Ryde team scoring three singles wins and the doubles. John Moyse and Kevin Allen both won two games for Stooges.
Saints 1 beat CPC Panthers 6-4 and had Derek Pittard to thank with three good wins, just beating Karen King 11-8 in the 5th, and John Winkles 11-7 in the 5th.
A 5-5 draw was the outcome of the match between Newport Vics C and Ryde Lions, where no player remained unbeaten. Nick Kelly and Ian Loosemore for Lions, and Robert Young for Vics all won two games.
Division 3 (30 Up)
Ryde Rooks continue to batter the opposition, and this week they beat Newport Vics E and won by a record 29-1 score in this division. The only success for Vics was from James Halliday who took an end off of Bert Paice. In a one sided contest, the Rooks team of Brian Voller, Bert Paice and John Featherstone retained their place at the top of the table.
Newport Vics F found the other Ryde team (Ravens) no easier, losing 23-7, with only Mark Millwood with two wins being successful. For Ravens, Alan Hopkins and John Rawlings won three each.
Saints 2 kept up their challenge for this division, beating Vics Terminators 18-12. Trevor Percival for Vics won three, but a team effort by Saints saw them win a close match.
CPC Quintet also had an 18-12 win, this time against Venturians, Maggie Preston excelling to win her three singles, and Harry Metz two. For Venturians Roy Wiltshire chipped in with two wins.
