Results from Week 3 (week ending 24th October 2008)
Division 1
League leaders Ryde Tigers crashed against their own Eagles team and so lost their place at the top of the table. A rare appearance by Alex Rorke did much to produce the result. The CPC teams Appley and Sovereign now share the lead. They met in a hard contest which ended 5 all. 16 year old Scott Lawson remains unbeaten and 13 year old George Downing made light of his first season in the top division. Other results in the division demonstrated the gap between top and bottom.
Division 2
Rookley HB’s occupied their usual place at the top despite losing players in the summer. They administered an 8-2 defeat on Vics C who sank to bottom place. Ventmen are the surprise package in second place thanks to three 7-3 wins; this time Havenstreet B were the victims. Roy Wiltshire and Alan Brewster are unbeaten. CPC Stooges parted 5 all after a hard battle with Ryde Cheetahs for whom Mike Jose scored a notable treble. CPC Panthers overcame Ryde Lions 6-4. They owed much to 14 year old Andrew Davis who scored a hat-trick. Ryde Rooks failed by a similar 6-4 score against Saints 1. Brian Voller’s hat-trick in the end could not save the losers.
30 Up
There was consolation for Ryde in the 30 up competition in the shape of an excellent win against hitherto unbeaten CPC Hawks. Alan Hopkins contributed most to a 17-13 victory by winning his three singles. Saints 2 remain in contention after their 21-9 win against Ventvets. Derek Pittard was the main “saint” with three wins and Julie Strevens contributed heroically. The best, certainly closest match of the round saw CPC Dynamos record their first win with a 16-14 against Vics Terminators. Trevor Percival again produced a 9-0 score line for the losers who were unfortunate to be in this opposition after a fine match.
