Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Association (IWCTTA)

Results from Week 4 (week ending 31st October 2008)

Division 1

Although the two CPC teams strengthened their hold on the top positions with two 10-0 wins, the player of the round was Tom Johnson who propelled Rookley to a 5 all draw against Havenstreet with three single wins and a doubles win. Vics B gained their first points, as they held a weakened Ryde Eagles to 4-6.

Division 2

Rookley remain firmly in the driver’s seat with maximum points. Ryde Cheetahs were unfortunate to find Paul White in devastating form. He won three to leave Ryde trailing by 7-3. Who will stop Rookley? Perhaps Saints who vanquished Ventmen 7-3, although they missed John Worley. For the losers Alan Brewster has won his first 12 singles. Luckless Vics C are the only team in all leagues still looking for their point. CPC Panthers squashed them 8-2 and Karen King notched her first hat-trick of the season, Andrew Davis his second.

Ryde Rooks and Lions parted at 5 all in a well deserved draw, Brian Voller winning three for the former, as he usually does. CPC Stooges won an excellent match against Havenstreet B by 6-4, Steve Downing scoring a hat-trick and winning the vital sixth point against Alan Peaker by 12-10 in the 5th and final game.

30 Up

Vics Terminators won their first match in the 30 up competition, helped by Adam Hinchcliffe for the first time. CPC Hawks were crushed 20-10. Saints 2 retained the lead with an 18-12 win against CPC Dynamos who are still looking for their first win. Derek Pittard again won all three for the winners, Maggie Preston two for the losers. Ryde Ravens are making big strides since signing Alan Hopkins and are only two points behind the leaders. They beat Ventvets 22-8. The losers welcomed back Paul Cotton after a very long absence.
