The fourth round of the table tennis summer league proved the best session so far, and unbeaten individual records fell like tenpins!

The top table clash was won 3-2 by Hurricans against Vikings, but the result left Vikings on top by a single point. Among the players who have completed a full programme, Scott Lawson alone remains unbeaten. Yet again he dominated the match. Alan Hulbert’s unbeaten record fell as he lost to both Scott and Lee Orton.

The surprise package Harriers suffered their first defeat losing to Tigers, and John Winkles unbeaten record crashed to Dave Rendle in the final decisive match of the evening. Rendle gave him a start of 9 and so put up a remarkable performance. However, Tigers retained third place.

No Hopers remain in bottom place despite a gallant 2-3 defeat against Gladiators for whom Paul Freeborn won two. The big starts he now has to give are proving difficult for George Downing, but he is gaining valuable experience in terms of consistency. This week he reached the last eight of the National Under 14 Championships, losing only to the National Under 15 Champion Zack Zelesnic after a tremendous struggle.

Rookley Stallions defeated Warriors 3-2 thanks to an excellent double by Carl Rye.

With Viktor Mokrus held up in a half-term traffic jam, Andy Davis from Bears had to face Eagles on his own. After losing to Martin Dove to whom he gave a start of 6, he celebrated the best win of his career when he defeated the experienced Ron Kemp, having lost to him in a summer league match played two weeks ago. For Andy a happy end to an otherwise disappointing evening for all players.

Mosquitos, after initial disappointment, stung Tornados via a 3-2 victory, David Lewis secured a rare double, making the most of the starts. A doubles won by the Lewis brothers clinched the victory.
