Results from Week 5 (week ending 6th November 2009)
Division 1
CPC Gladiators narrowly lost 6-4 to the other CPC team Appley who now take over the lead in the top division. For Gladiators George Downing defeated Scott Lawson in three close games, and the previously unbeaten Andy Ely lost twice, to Scott and Lee Orton.
Appley were in action again this week in a re-arranged match against Newport Vics A. They won 7-3, with Lee Orton scoring another impressive maximum. The shock result of the season so far saw the tricky Pedro Lopez beat Scott Lawson in three. For Appley, Rob Love did well to win two games, against Pedro and Mike Bulpitt.
Vics A remain in third place in the league having beaten Ryde Tigers 7-3, the ever reliable and consistent Dave Hilliam winning his three games.
Shanklin Piranhas beat Rookley Dogs 7-3 with the aid of a number of nets and edges, Don Hobbs and Julie Thorn both taking maximums. For Shanklin, Freddie Cato was involved in two very close games, going down 16-14 in the 5th to Carl Rye, and 13-11 in the 5th to Iain Hall.
Ryde Eagles enjoyed a good 7-3 win against Havenstreet, with Roger Nevell and Ron Kemp both winning three games. Ryde’s Martin Dove beat an out of sorts Kevin Gatrell in a close encounter.
Division 2
The top of the table clash saw Vics B continue on their merry way with an 8-2 win against Ryde cheetahs, Dave Newnham and Barry Joyce again winning three games each. Tom Groves and Mike Jose both excelled to beat Ray Ferris in some very close games.
The only other game in this division this week saw Saints 1 convincingly beat Ryde Lions 9-1, John Worley and Jill Fothergill scoring maximums for Saints. Lions only success was when Ian Loosemore beat Mick Gee 11-6 in the 5th game.
Division 3 (30 Up)
Ryde Rooks continue to squash all other teams in Division 3, this week beating Newport Vics Terminators 22-8. The unbeaten Brian Voller was again on target for Ryde by winning another three, and John Featherstone won two. Vics Trevor Percival excelled to beat John and Bert Paice.
Ryde Ravens kept up their challenge for the leadership, beating Saints 2 20-10. Bert Paice scored three and Alan Hopkins two for Ryde. Pat Dean also won two games for Saints.
Venturians beat Newport Vics F 22-8 in another Division 3 match, with Roy Wiltshire getting his three games. Venturians Dave Williams and Brian Evans both won two games in the win. Vics F remain in bottom spot in the league, a few points behind their other team.
CPC Quintet won 18-12 against Vics E (BOS), but the unbeaten player was Vics James Halliday who excelled to beat Roy, Maggie and Marlene from CPC.
