Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Association (IWCTTA)

Results from Week 5 (week ending 7th November 2008)

Division 1

CPC Sovereigns went to the top of Division 1 thanks to a whitewash of Vics B. Main rivals CPC Appley dropped a point to Ryde Eagles who had Alex Rorke in the line-up. He won his three singles, although teenagers Scott Lawson and George Downing led him 2-0 before going down 3-2. It was a fine match with four contests going into the fifth set, three of these to Ryde and Appley’s poor doubles play cost them victory in the final match.

Vics A returned to form, squashing Rookley 8-2, and Ryde Tigers similarly overcame Havenstreet, Jim Hall winning three.

Division 2

A short programme in Division 2 produced two 5-5 draws. Ventmen were held by Ryde Rooks for whom Brian Voller inflicted on Alan Brewster his first defeat of the season. Ryde Cheetahs were saved from defeat by Mike Platt’s hat-trick. However CPC Panthers hit back in this match levelling the score after being 5-2 down.

Saints 1 remain in contention for promotion. Without John Worley they beat CPC Stooges 7-3 gaining maximum points which included a hat-trick for Jill Fothergill who is not seen enough. Steve Downing won two for the losers. He led Jill 2-0 only to fall by 3-2.

30 Up

In the 30 up competition Saints 2 went to the top after sweeping CPC Hawks aside by 23-7. Vics Terminators rushed up the table with yet another win, this time Ryde Ravens got a 20-10 drubbing. Ryde remain in contention for promotion despite this setback.

CPC Dynamos and Ventvets look likely to battle out bottom place. This time Dynamos had the better of things, winning 17-13 with Trevor Farmer contributing his first hat-trick. The section continues to surprise, and each round seems to produce unexpected results.
