Results from Week 7 (week ending 27th November 2009)
Division 1
League leaders CPC Appley had another comfortable win against Rookley Hound Dogs, winning 9-1. Lee Orton and Rob Love both achieved maximums, with Andy Davis picking up two wins, including a close match with Tom Johnson, which finished 12-10 in the fifth to Andy. The Dogs only win came from Iain Hall.
Second placed Gladiators had a closer match with Ryde Eagles. At one point, Eagles led 3-2, but Gladiators crept ahead to win 6-4. Ron Kemp beat George Downing 6-11, 5-11. 14-12, 11-9, 14-12 having been 9-2 down in the fourth leg, before winning the next 9 points to take the game into the 5th.
Shanklin Piranhas beat Vics A 7-3, with PC taking another hat-trick with some impressive play. Otherwise, Mike Turner - returning from retirement won two for Vics, beating the explosive Don Hobbs.
Ryde Tigers narrowly beat Havenstreet A 6-4, despite a brilliant hat-trick from Kev Gatrell. Paul Freeborn and Jim Hall won two for Tigers. Closest game was Kev’s win against Jim, which was won 17-15 in the 5th game.
Division 2
Vics B had another comprehensive win this week, beating CPC Stooges 9-1. The unbeaten Barry Joyce continued his good form, and only John Cornforth for CPC could get on the scoresheet, winning 11-8 in the 5th against Ray Ferris.
Second placed Havenstreet just pipped Saints 1 6-4, Dave Rendle again hitting a maximum for Havenstreet. Alan Peaker scored two for the victors, and John Worley won two for Saints.
Ryde Cheetahs beat Vics C 8-2, with Mike Platt keeping up his high average with another three wins. Mike Jose and Tom Groves won two each for Ryde.
CPC Panthers beat Ryde Lions 8-2, John Cornforth and Karen King scoring maximums, and John Winkles picking up two. Ian Loosemore was the only scorer for Ryde, beating John in three games.
Division 3 (30 Up)
Saints 2 kept up their challenge for this division with a 25-5 win against Vics F. Ted Martin won three, Pat Dean and Derek Pittard scored two each as Saints eased to second place in Division 3.
Vics Terminators had a very close match against CPC Quintet, winning 16-14. Trevor Percival from Vics was the only unbeaten player, as Maggie Preston and Harry Metz won two each for CPC. Strangely, scoring on the Division 1 or 2 scheme, the result here should have been a draw, but the scheme currently in place seems to occasionally give some strange and perhaps unfair results?
Venturians beat Vics E 18-12, with Vent’s Brian Evens winning his three games. Dot Millmore also won two for Vents, James Halliday also taking two wins for Vics.
