Isle of Wight County Table Tennis Association (IWCTTA)

Results from Week 8 (week ending 4th December 2009)

Division 1

League leaders CPC Appley hang on to their lead at the top of Division 1 even after being beaten this week by third place Shanklin Piranhas 6-4. Don Hobbs was Shanklin’s hero with an excellent maximum, including the scalp of Scott Lawson 11-8 in the 5th game. Also for Shanklin, PC scored two wins, and got very close to Scott, losing 11-8 in the 5th game.

CPC Gladiators closed the gap on Appley by beating Ryde Tigers 9-1. Andy Ely and George Downing scoring three each, Andrew Davis chipping in with two. Ryde’s only success was Jim Hall’s win against Andrew.

Ryde Eagles came close to Vics A, just losing 6-4. Alex Rorke for Ryde scored a maximum, and Martin Dove excelled to beat Mike Bulpitt 11-7 in 5 games. Dave Hilliam and Mike Turner both scored two wins for Vics.

In the battle at the bottom of the table, Havenstreet beat Rookley Hound Dogs 7-3, no player remaining unbeaten. Seven of the matches went to the final game, and for Havenstreet, Alan Hulbert, Kev Gatrell and Dave Rendle scored two wins, matched for Rookley by Steve White.

Division 2

A shorter week this week with only two matches played. This gave the other teams a chance to catch up with Vics B, and following Havenstreet’s 8-2 win over Ryde Cheetahs, Vics B are now just 3 points ahead - albeit with a game in hand. Havenstreet’s Alan Peaker and Dave Rendle both achieved maximums in the win.

The other match saw a hard fought draw between CPC Stooges and Saints 1. John Moyse from CPC was unbeaten, and Steve Downing won two, as did Mick Gee from Saints.

Division 3 (30 Up)

Ryde Rooks are streaking away with Division 3 (not a pretty sight) following their 22-8 win against Venturians. Brian Voller kept his 100% record with yet another three wins, and John Featherstone and Bert Paice both won two each. For Venturians, Roy Wiltshire won two games.

Saints 2 remain in second place after their 22-8 win against Vics E, Derek Pittard, Ted Martin and Pat Dean all winning two games for Saints. James Halliday excelled for Vics winning his three games.

Ryde Ravens keep third spot, this week having beaten Vics Terminators 20-10, despite another maximum from Vics Trevor Percival. Jon Baker was forced to retire during his game with Pauline Rorke and played no more.

Vics F just beat CPC Quintet 16-14 in a close encounter, Mark Millwood from Vics winning his three games. John Pearcey won two, and for CPC, Maggie Preston also won two.
