Division 1

CPC Sovereigns retained their two point league lead over CPC Appley with a win over Ryde Eagles in Division 1. The leaders 8-2 victory included hat-tricks for Lee Orton and Don Hobbs, who beat previously the unbeaten Alex Rorke.

Second place Appley had a fine 8-2 away victory over third placed Vics A. There were hat-tricks for youngsters George Downing and Scott Lawson, but both were given a scare by Mike Bulpitt, who took them to five sets. Ryde Tigers defeated Rookley Stallions 7-3 with Jim Hall in fine form, again winning three. Tom Johnson replied with two for the losers.

Division 2

Rookley HB’s march to the Division 2 title continues after an 8-2 victory over Ventmen. Alan Brewster performed heroically to defeat Carl Rye and Dave Johnson, but could not stop Paul White scoring a hat-trick. CPC Panthers continue to surprise and remain in second place after a 6-4 victory at Ryde Rooks. Brian Voller remained undefeated with three singles and a doubles win, but was taken to the brink of defeat by young Andrew Davis.

In a hard fought match, Vics C beat Saints 1 6-4. Robert Young and Martin Parsonage snatched the doublers 16-14 in the fifth set. John Worsley must regard himself as unlucky, winning three singles and finding himself on the losing side. CPC Stooges defeated Ryde Lions 6-4, thanks mainly to Steve Downing winning three. This included a fine win against the outstanding Martin Garnett. Havenstreet B and Ryde Cheetahs shared the points, in a match which saw another hat-trick for ex-Island junior champion Rob Warren.

30 Up

In the 30 up competition, CPC Dynamos caused a major surprise with their 15-15 draw against top of the table Saints 2. Maggie Preston worked hard, and after winning three, she combined with Trevor Farmer to win the doubles and secure the draw. CPC Hawks continued their good run against Vics NF Terminators with an 18-12 victory, despite Trevor Percival being in unstoppable form.
