Results from Week 9 (week ending 11th December 2009)

Division 1

 

League leaders CPC Appley retain their lead at the top of Division 1 despite losing to Newport Vics A 6-4. Vics were strengthened by the return of Roger Hookey who won three, Dave Hilliam chipping in  two games for Vics.

 

CPC Gladiators beat Rookley Dogs 9-1, Steve Downing deputising for Andy Ely won his three games. Son George also won three, the only win for the Dogs being Carl Rye over Andrew Davis.

 

Shanklin kept up their challenge for the title with a 10-0 win over Havenstreet. Messrs. Hobbs, Morley and PC were easy winners.

 

The battle of the Ryde clubs saw Tigers beat a weakened Eagles 8-2, Jim Hall winning three for Tigers. Brian Farrelly and Paul Freeborn both won two. For Eagles, Roger Nevell also won two.  

 

Division 2

 

In a week 8 match, Vics B continue to dominate this division with another 10-0 win, this time against Ryde Lions. The Vics team of Ray Ferris, Dave Newnham and Barry Joyce having it all their own way; only 4 of the 10 matches venturing into the 4th set.

 

They followed that win with another against their C team - also 10-0. Closest game saw Ray Ferris just hold on to beat Martin Parsonage 12-10 in the 5th. Second placed Havenstreet B beat CPC Panthers 6-4 to keep their challenge alive. Dave Rendle was again unbeaten for Havenstreet; Karen King and John Cornforth both won two for Ryde.

 

With Mike Platt not playing, third place Ryde Cheetahs lost to Saints 1 8-2. John Worley was unbeaten for Saints.

 

CPC Stooges remain in 4th place with their 6-4 win over Ryde Lions. Steve Downing and John Moyse both won three for CPC, all three Ryde players beat Kevin Allen.

 

At the bottom of the table, CPC Panthers and Vics C fought a 5-5 draw, no player remaining unbeaten. For CPC, Karen King and John Cornforth won two, and for Vics, Robert Young and Darren Cook also won two.

 

Division 3 (30 Up)

 

League leaders Ryde Rooks played a rearranged match against Ryde Ravens and won handsomely 26-4, Brian Voller retained his 100% record with another three, as did John Featherstone. Despite his advancing years and wooden leg, Bert Paice impressed with two wins.

 

Rooks also featured in a match against Saints 2 and won convincingly 26-4. This time Brian Voller won his three, and Bert Paice and John Featherstone two each. For Saints Derek Pittard battled well to win two.

 

Ravens beat CPC Quintet 20-10, the inedible Pauline Rorke (playing without her coach Alex) won three, as did John Rawlings.

 

The mid-table battle saw Vics Terminators and Venturians fight out a 15-15 draw, Trevor Percival for Vics being the only unbeaten player.
