and I drove her “out for some lunch”, before stopping at the hall, and taking her
in to meet more than 60 of her friends and relatives, some of whom had travelled
from as far as Spain, North and Central Scotland, Oxford, St Margaret’s and Crowborough.
Others walked down from Forewood Rise or drove from other exotic locations nearby.....
You could tell from the expression on her face as she stepped into the hall that
she was surprised (and shocked, probably..!), and she then slowly made her way around
the room, meeting and greeting those present.
The tables were loaded with food prepared by Karen and Rob, Leanne and Matt, and
Sarah and Alan, and very soon the party began!
After everyone had eaten, Mum’s friends from the choir (the Von Trapp Family Singers
apparently...) sang a selection of her favourite Scottish songs
And then the Crowhurst Bells Group gave the assembled guests an impromptu selection
of tunes on the hand bells, with a guest appearance from Ian Butters on 9 and 0!
Then it was time to get Mum to cut her birthday cake!! (made by Rob and Karen)
At 6pm or so, the now tired lady took her leave, and was driven home to rest, having
had a day she would remember for a long time!
Many thanks are due to those who helped arrange the festivities, including the preparation
of the food and help on the day itself, setting up the hall, and clearing away after!!
And grateful thanks to all those who came and celebrated with us!
So, what shall we do for her 100th???????????
